Introducing a new way to fund content you like across the Atmosphere. Lettuce.at is an upcoming service that will allow you to set a reoccurring donation to be distributed to creators based on your likes.

How it works
Users will be able to set any recurring donation amount above $1, and on a monthly basis Lettuce will distribute that money based on the amount of qualified likes participating creators receive.

For their donation, users will receive a label on their account noting their support. (Which users can optionally disable).

Beyond Bluesky to the Atmosphere
On launch Lettuce.at will only support Bluesky lexicons (regardless of App View), but we plan to add support for others in the near future - standard.site, Spark, and stream.place lexicons are on the top of that list.

Pay It Forward
Users will have the option to privately re-donate the money they receive into the fund, which will effectively work as if they had contributed it as a direct donation.

Creating value not engagement bait
Our goal is to encourage the creation of high quality content. However we are aware that content monetization has had negative consequences on other platforms, especially X and Threads. We believe this to be the result of careless and unprincipled implementations. Lettuce will always work to make sure that the content it funds improves Atmosphere experiences, not degrades them.

This starts with tying funding distribution to likes. In contrast to other platforms that use general engagement with content as a funding signal, Lettuce funds content that contributors literally like. This doesn’t prevent engagement farming, but it does start Lettuce on a healthier foundation than existing monetization methods.

We are also planning additional qualifications to prevent the incentivizing of toxicity and engagement farming:

  • Users with derogatory labels from notable labelers will not be eligible for receiving.

  • Likes on quotes will not counted, unless the quoted user likes the post.

  • Likes on replies will not counted, unless the original poster likes the reply.

  • Likes on posts from followed users will be given more weight.

Conclusion

We aren’t launching today. We’re building this for the community, and want feedback as we do so. If you have thoughts, let us know on Bluesky. If you are excited to join lettuce as a contributor or creator, you can sign up for our waitlist here, or follow us on Bluesky for more updates!

FAQ

  • Does Lettuce take a cut?

    • Yes, Lettuce takes a 10% cut of proceeds to fund operations. We believe this is a conservative amount. Popular platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, The App Store take a 30% before passing on revenue to creators.

  • What if a creator doesn't have payment from Lettuce enabled

    • Lettuce will make an effort to contact the creator through Bluesky, if they haven’t claimed their funds after a set period, the funds will be re-distributed.
